Mark messages as read or unread, select multiple conversations, and pin important chats

Updated yesterday

In the Spond app, you’ll find tools that help you manage messages more efficiently, making it easier to navigate between conversations and group chats.

This article explains how to use the features for marking messages as unread, archiving chats, performing actions on multiple conversations at once, and pinning chats. These tools are designed to simplify message management for both administrators and regular users.

Mark messages as read or unread and pin conversations

With the Mark as unread feature, you can easily keep track of important messages you want to return to later.
💡 You can also pin up to three conversations at the top of your chat list for quick access.

How to mark messages as read or unread and pin conversations

  • Swipe Right: A partial swipe to the right on any conversation thread displays options to mark the conversation as read or unread, as well as the option to pin it to the top of your conversation list.

    • Tap the speech bubble icon to mark the conversation as read or unread.

    • Tap the pin icon to pin the conversation.

This provides a quick and easy way to keep track of important messages you want to revisit later.

  • Full Swipe Right: Swiping the entire conversation thread to the right automatically marks the message as read or unread without the need to tap the icon. This saves time and simplifies the process when managing multiple chats.

  • Long Press: When you press and hold a conversation, a menu will appear at the bottom with several options. Here, you can mark the conversation as read or unread, pin it to the top of your conversation list, or archive it.

Bulk selection of messages

To help users manage multiple conversations quickly, you can use the bulk selection feature. This function is especially useful for administrators or those managing large groups with frequent messages.

  • Bulk selection button: Located next to the ➕ button at the top of the screen, it allows you to select multiple chats at once. Once selected, you can mark them as read or unread with a single tap. You can also archive the selected conversations.

Frequently asked questions

How do I mark a message as read or unread?

You can mark a message as read or unread by swiping right on the chat thread or long-pressing to access options. A full right swipe automatically marks the chat.

Can I mark multiple chats as read or unread?

Yes, use the bulk select button next to the ➕ button to select multiple chats and mark them as read or unread, or archive them all at once.

Why can’t I pin more conversations to my chat list?

You can only pin up to three conversations at the top of your chat list. If you’ve already pinned three, you’ll need to unpin one before adding another. This limit helps keep your chat list organised and easy to navigate.

Is there a difference between iOS and Android for these features?

The functionality is the same across both platforms, though the design and gestures may look and feel slightly different due to iOS and Android’s design patterns.

Is there a limit to how many members can be in a group chat?

Yes, there is an upper limit of 100 members in a group chat. If the group is linked to a Spond Club profile, administrators can send messages to all club members directly from Spond Club. This provides a great solution for larger groups and clubs.
