What is Safeguarding in Spond?

Safeguarding in Spond is about protecting children and young people under the age of 18 from harm, abuse and exploitation, whether physical, psychological or digital. The aim is to ensure that all children taking part in organised activities do so in a safe, positive and supportive environment where they can develop both socially and physically.

Safeguarding work in Spond is rooted in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989), and focuses not only on responding to incidents, but also on preventing them through awareness, clear routines and proper training.

Spond and ECPAT Norway work actively to promote the best interests of children across all types of activities. A shared goal for everyone involved in working with children and young people is to create a safe, supportive and positive environment where they can grow and thrive, both physically and socially.

Report Concerns

If you are concerned about the wellbeing of a child, it is both appropriate and important to share your concerns with the right people. Remember, it is not your role to determine whether abuse is taking place, but rather to report any concerns you may have through the correct channels.

For non-urgent concerns, you have several options. These include contacting your national governing body (if applicable), your local authority’s social care services, the NSPCC, or the Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU).
