Spot the Ball is a great way for groups, teams and other non-commercial organisations to raise money. Spond provides the platform on which prize competitions tailored to your group can be set up with ease. The competition is wholly operated and managed by Spond. We even create the campaign page to help you get the word out to members and others who might be interested in contributing.

How Spot the Ball works


Group admins creates a campaign in Spond by setting up a Spot the Ball campaign This lasts for 7 days.

  1. Members are selected as sellers. They are each given a personal campaign page to share with friends and family.

  2. Sellers will receive updates and tips during the campaign.

  3. Sellers can share their personal campaign page via social media, WhatsApp, SMS and email. The more they share, the more they can sell.

  4. When someone opens a campaign page on their mobile or in a browser, they will be able to choose how many entries they want to buy, paying with card or Paypal.

  5. The receipt will be sent to the buyer by email.

  6. Winners will need to provide their address to receive their chosen gift card.

  7. Funds raised, less agreed fees and costs, will be settled and paid out within 14 business days after the campaign has concluded, as payment for marketing services.

Odds of Winning Spot the Ball


There are no fixed odds for winning Spot the Ball, as the chances depend on the number of participants. In addition to the number of entrants, an important factor is how close you get to the ball’s location. The winner is the person who gets closest, even if the position isn’t exactly correct. In practice, the odds of winning are therefore directly related to the number of participants, and your chances are influenced by how many people enter the competition.

How can I raise money for my club with Spot the Ball?

With Spond’s Spot the Ball competitions, you can set up a campaign to raise money for your club or other non-commercial organisation. We offer a platform for you to easily create an individualised Spot the Ball prize competition. Spond will run the prize competition and pay you for marketing the competition. The amount earned is based on the total entry fees received by Spond less agreed fees and costs.

How much can we raise with Spot the Ball?

A total 75% of all proceeds will be given to your group. The only thing that comes out of this fund is the giftcard prize supplied by Spond, which can be worth anywhere from 5% to 25% of total sales, a figure that's decided by you. Here’s an example where Acme FC sets up a campaign in the Spond app with a 25% prize level and sales of £1,000:

  • Total sales = £1,000

  • Spond management fee (25%) = £250

  • Value of prize giftcard, supplied by Spond (25%) = £200

  • Income for Acme FC = £500

How to enter Spot the Ball

To enter the Spot the Ball, you need to be a resident of Great Britain - That's England, Scotland or Wales, excluding Northern Ireland. if you meet this criteria, entering is simple:

  1. Go to the relevant competition pages and select your contribution amount.

  2. Select your payment method and enter your billing details.

  3. Select your contribution amount on the competition pages to purchase your entry (All transactions will be securely processed by Spond and its payment partners).

  4. Go to the image on the competition pages and select the location where you think the ball is located.

  5. When you are happy with your selection, select ʻDone’.

  6. Fill in your contact details using the online form and select ʻSubmit’.

  7. How many times can I enter the competition?

  8. There is no limit to the number of times you can enter the competition, although there may be a limited number of entries available. In this case, no further entries will be available once the maximum limit has been hit.

Who can enter Spot the Ball?

Unless otherwise stated in the specific rules, Spond prize competitions are open to all individuals who are aged 16 and over at the time of entering the prize competition and who are resident in Great Britain, excluding:

  • The individual member of the organisation responsible for the creation and promotion of the prize competition.

  • Spond employees.

  • Employees of agents or suppliers of Spond who are professionally connected with the prize competition or its administration.

  • Members of the immediate families or households of any of the above.


Spot the Ball prizes explained

  • The prize will be in the form of a giftcard.

  • The gift card will be for an amount which is at least the value indicated as the minimum prize value at the point of entry into the prize competition. This amount is usually £1.

  • The prize will be based on a percentage of total sales for the prize competition (ie. Prize = 10% of sales. Sales = £1,000. Prize = £100).

  • The prize winner will be able to pick a giftcard of their choosing from the range offered. This may include brands such as Amazon, Apple and John Lewis, although the list is not definitive and may be subject to change.


Frequently asked questions

Is there a cash alternative to the giftcard?


There is no cash alternative available, although Spond does reserve the right to substitute an alternative prize of equal or greater value should the prize be unavailable. Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be resold. No compensation or alternative prize will be available if the prize winner is unable to use the prize. Unless otherwise agreed in writing by Spond, the prize will only be awarded to the prize winner.

How is the value of the prize decided?


Unless otherwise indicated in the specific terms, the value of a prize will be based on a percentage of the total amount contributed by entrants to the prize competition. The exact percentage is decided by the group, team or club that has asked Spond to manage the competition on its behalf. All prize competitions will have a minimum prize value of £1.

When will the funds raised through the FRC campaign be paid out?


After the FRC campaign ends, the collected funds, minus any agreed fees and costs, will be processed and paid out within 14 working days as remuneration for marketing services.
