Create a Club/Community or Group in the Spond app

Clubs and groups in Spond provide a platform for coordinated communication and collaboration within specific areas of interest. These groups can range from sports clubs to school classes, parent groups, and other community organisations. Through the user friendly interface in the Spond app, you can create and manage clubs and groups, share information about events and activities, and communicate directly with group members.

Group and club administrators in the Spond app have specific privileges that give them control over how the group operates. This includes the ability to manage membership, create events, and send messages to everyone in the club or group. These privileges enable group and club administrators to organise and coordinate activities effectively, while keeping all members up to date.


Create a club/community or group in the Spond app

Creating a club/community or group in Spond is like setting up your own digital meeting place for friends, teams, clubs, or other groups you are part of. You give the group a name, add people, and before you know it, you have a place where you can chat, plan activities, and keep everyone up to date. It is a simple way to bring people together and share information.

When you create a group in Spond, you can choose between two group types:

  • Club or community: For sports clubs, associations, and larger communities.

  • Group: For teams, casual activities, and departments within a larger organisation.

    💡 In the web version of the Spond app, only the group type "Group" can be created.

How to create a club or community

  1. Open the app.

  2. In the menu bar at the bottom, tap Groups.

  3. Tap Create in the top right corner on iPhone, or the "➕" icon in the bottom right corner on Android.

  4. Select the group type: Club or community.

  5. Enter a name for the club/community.

  6. Select an activity from the list, or use the search field to find the right activity.

  7. Select an age group:

    • Children/Youth → Members aged 0 to 17, where much of the communication is with the members’ parents or guardians.

    • Adults → Members aged 18+.

    • Mixed → Members of all ages, with or without parents or guardians.

  8. Tap Create club/community.



    💡 Club/community can only be created in the Spond mobile app, not in the web version.

How to create a group


App:

  1. Open the app.

  2. In the menu bar at the bottom, tap Groups.

  3. Select Create in the top right corner on iPhone, or the "➕" icon in the bottom right corner on Android.

  4. Tap the group type: Group.

  5. Name the Group.

  6. Select an activity from the list, or use the search field to find the right activity.

  7. Select an age group:

    • Children/Youth → Members aged 0 to 17, where much of the communication is with the members’ parents or guardians.

    • Adults → Members aged 18+.

    • Mixed → Members of all ages, with or without parents or guardians.

  8. Tap Create Group.


Web:

  1. Log in to your Spond profile here

  2. In the box (Organise activities in groups) under your profile picture, select Create new group

  3. Select activity

  4. Select age group

  5. Set group name and create subgroups (optional)

  6. Create a group description (optional)

  7. Select Create group


⚠️ NOTE! You must be at least 15 years old to create a new club/group in Spond.


What is a subgroup?

A subgroup allows you to organise participants into smaller units. The subgroups function as separate entities within your main group. This makes it easier to manage and communicate with specific groups of participants. You can create and customise subgroups according to your needs, giving you more flexibility in how you manage events and activities in Spond.

For example, if you create a main group with the title "Team name Boys 03", the titles of the subgroups (teams) can be yellow/red/green or zebra/tiger/lion etc.​

⚠️ NOTE: All players will be in the main group and receive invitations/notifications from there, but you can add required players to one or more specific subgroups. No one other than the members of a subgroup can see the information shared there (except admins).

App

  1. Open the app

  2. Groups

  3. Select the required group

  4. Subgroups

  5. Select the button Create a subgroup (iPhone) / "➕" sign at the bottom right (Android)

  6. Create a name for the subgroup

  7. Select colour for the subgroup

  8. Select admin(s) for the subgroup (if the main group has multiple admins)

  9. Next

  10. Select members to join

  11. Finished

Web

  1. Log in to your Spond profile here

  2. Select the required group

  3. Select the three dots on the far right of the selection bar

  4. Create subgroup

  5. Create a name for the subgroup

  6. Select colour for the subgroup

  7. Select admin(s) for the subgroup (if the main group has multiple admins)

  8. Next

What are age groups/group types?

The main difference between which age group you choose for your group is whether you want the member to have guardians listed on them.
You can change this at any time under the group's settings. You can choose between these age groups:

  • Children/youth (0-17 years)

  • Adults (18+ years)

  • Mixed (all ages)


Frequently Asked Questions

I can't create a match event in my group, why?

This is likely because the group activity in the group is either not set or does not support match events. Match events are available for groups where the group activity is set to the following:

  • American football

  • Australian rules football

  • Bandy

  • Basketball

  • Cornhole

  • Cricket (not yet possible to record results)

  • Football

  • Futsal

  • Gaelic football

  • Handball

  • Hockey

  • Floorball

  • Lacrosse

  • Netball

  • Rugby league

  • Rugby union

  • Softball

  • Touch football

  • Underwater hockey

  • Volleyball

What is the maximum number of members I can add to a group?


The maximum number of members in a group is 2000 people. This gives you plenty of room to organise and communicate with many members at once. If you need more groups, you can easily create new ones and distribute members as needed.

Is it possible to create the Club or community group type in the web version of the Spond app?


The Club or community group type cannot be created in the web version of the Spond app. If you want to create a club or community, this must be done in the Spond mobile app.
