Updated over a week ago

⚠️ NOTE! This article is about subscription payments for annual fees and other regular payments. For subscription payments related to Courses and Academies in Spond Club, go here.

Subscription payments make it easy to collect recurring fees, like monthly training subs or seasonal membership costs, directly through Spond Club. Once set up, these payments run automatically as long as a member is part of the group or has a specific member type.

This guide walks you through how to create, manage and track subscription payments for your club.

⚠️ NOTE! This feature is only available to Spond Club admins.

What are subscription payments?

Subscription payments let you automate recurring charges for members who belong to a group or member type in Spond Club. They’re perfect for:

  • Training fees that recur weekly or monthly

  • Seasonal membership or coaching costs

  • Ongoing facility or equipment contributions

Once a subscription is created, Spond sends payment requests directly to members via the Spond app. Payments repeat automatically until the member is removed.

Why use subscription payments?

  • Save time on admin – Set up a subscription once, and Spond takes care of the rest

  • Track payments in real-time – See what’s been paid, what’s due, and any failed attempts

  • Simplify member experience – Members pay in-app and get notified if a payment fails

  • Ensure consistent income – Predictable, reliable cash flow helps with planning

How to set up a subscription payment

Set up subscription payment

  1. Log in to Spond Club

  2. Go to the Payments section and choose to create a new payment

  3. Select ‘Subscription’ as the payment type

  4. Add a clear payment description so members know what they’re paying for

  5. Enter the subscription details, including:

    • Payment cycle

    • Charge date

  6. Assign the subscription to a group or member type

  7. Review and confirm your settings

  8. Send it out – Members will receive the request in the Spond app

What members see

Members receive the subscription request in their Spond app. From there, they can:

  • Pay securely via Stripe

  • Switch payment methods

  • Receive alerts if something goes wrong

  • Track their own payment history

If a payment fails, Spond will retry it automatically, and you’ll see a notification in your admin panel.

How subscriptions behave over time

  • If a member is added to the group or saved as a specific member type, they’ll automatically be included in the subscription.

  • If a member is removed or gets a new member type, their subscription payments will stop.

  • You can edit the subscription at any time, update the amount, change which members it applies to, or cancel it altogether.

Tracking and reports

After sending out a subscription:

  • Go to the Reports tab in Spond Club

  • See active subscriptions, failed payments, and who’s up to date

  • Use real-time badges and alerts to manage what needs attention

How to make the most of Subscription Payments

  • Use subscriptions for long-term payments like monthly or term-based fees

  • Continue using one-time or flexible payments for shorter commitments

  • Keep your member groups up to date, subscriptions rely on group membership

  • Check the Reports tab weekly to monitor performance and retry any failed payments
