By using the 'Match' feature under events, it's easier to distinguish your matches from other events, and we've added extra functionality to help you organise your matches. You can also add results - both during the match and after it has finished.


How do I set up a match in the Spond App?

Matches can be set up both in season planner and as single events .
You can create them from both the app and the web version.

How to set up a match


​App:

  1. Create a new event

  2. At the top of the screen, you’ll see that "Match" is highlighted in black.

  3. Select 'Type' to set whether it's a home match, home match, tournament or training match

  4. You can change the display name of the group

  5. Tap 'No kit colour' to set a colour for the team

  6. Under 'Opponent', enter the name and colour of the opposing team

  8. Tap 'Create'

Web version:

  1. Create a new event

  2. Scroll to the top of the page and find the "Type" field. Here you can switch from Event to one of the four match types

  3. Fill in the names of home and away teams

  4. The rest of the features are explained here

  5. Press 'Create'


Features in Matches

You'll find these features when you create an event as a match:

  • Match type: Choose between home match, away match, cup/tournament or training match

  • Name the other team: So your players know who they'll be facing

  • Team colours: You can choose colours for both the home team and the opponent

  • Opposing coach (🇬🇧 UK only): You can send a match confirmation request to the opposing team’s coach/admin, allowing them to confirm attendance. Details like match date, time, location, and organiser contact info will be visible to the opposing coach/admin.

  • Results: Add and update the result, both during and after the match


Register scores

Admins can register scores and result. You can decide whether or not the results should be available to members. If they're not visible to members, only admins will be able to see them.

How to Register Scores in the Spond App

  1. Open the Match Event you want to update.

  2. Tap 'Update scores' at the top next to where the match type is indicated. e.g. “home match”

  3. Tap the plus sign on the same line as the name of the team you want to register goals for

  4. Choose whether the results should be available to the members of the group

  5. Full time toggle switch: When enabled, this indicates that the match has ended and the final score is confirmed

  6. If you have chosen to enable the full-time switch, you will now see that it is possible to share the match result


Players spotlight

The Player Spotlight feature allows your members to vote for, for example, the title of the best player of the match, providing a fun and engaging way to motivate players. This feature is entirely optional and can only be added to an event by an admin. Players and parents will not be invited to vote until an admin has activated it.

⚠️ NOTE: This feature is only available in the Spond App.

How to Activate Players Spotlight

  1. Open the Match Event

  2. Tap "Players spotlight"

  3. At the bottom of the next screen, you can select "Create a poll'

  4. You can choose from the members who have marked themselves as “attending” for the event

  5. Enter the title you want the Player Spotlight voting to apply to

  6. You can now configure the following settings:

    • A description

    • Whether members can vote for multiple players at the same time

    • Whether votes should be visible to all members or only admins

    • A deadline for submitting votes

    • Whether others can add comments to the voting process

  7. Select "Publish"


Match Confirmation (🇬🇧UK & 🇺🇸US, Spond app only)

With the Match Confirmation feature, the opposing team’s coach/admin can easily confirm their team’s attendance. The feature provides an efficient way to share essential practical information before the match, such as date, time, and location.

Additionally, the opposing team’s coach/admin receives the organiser’s (the admin who sent out the match confirmation request) contact information, allowing them to get in touch easily if any questions arise.

Match confirmations are sent to the opposing team’s coach/admin via email or SMS.

How to add Match Confirmation when creating a new match event

  1. Start creating a match event. See how to create a match event here

  2. After you have added members, the next step is the overview of details for the match event

  3. A bit further down on this overview, you will see the option “Match Confirmation”, tap this option

  4. Enter the name of the opposing coach/admin, as well as their email address and/or telephone number

  5. Tap "Done" at the top right

  6. When all other necessary information about the match event has been filled in, tap “Send/Save” at the top right

  7. Now you see an overview of the match event that has been sent or will be sent(if you have chosen to send the invitation at a later time) to the event’s participants. Tap the “Match Confirmation” option.

  8. Tap the “Send confirmation request” button and the opposing team’s coach/admin will receive an invitation with information about the match date and time, address, and contact details for the admin who sent out the match confirmation request

  9. In the drop down menu: “Tips about the Match Confirmation feature”, further down, you can, among other things, read about what happens when the opposing team’s coach/admin responds to the match confirmation request

How to add an Match Confirmation from an existing match event

  1. Navigate to the relevant match event

  2. Tap the “Match confirmation” option

  3. Tap the option, “Add opposing coach

  4. Enter the name of the opposing coach/admin, as well as their email address and/or telephone number

  5. Tap "Save" at the top right

  6. Tap the “Send confirmation request” button, and the opposing team’s coach/admin will receive an invitation with information about the match date and time, address, and contact details for the admin who sent out the match confirmation request

  7. In the drop down menu: “Tips about the Match Confirmation feature”, further down, you can, among other things, read about what happens when the opposing team’s coach/admin responds to the match confirmation request

💡 Tips about the Match confirmation feature

  • If both the email address and phone number of the opposing team’s coach/admin are provided, the match confirmation request will be sent by SMS

  • When the opposing team’s coach/admin responds to the request, only the person who sent the request will receive a push notification about the response. However, all admins/hosts can access the match event to view the response status at any time.

  • If match event attributes such as date/time, location, and/or the opposing team’s coach change, please note that the match event request must be sent again.

  • You can remove the opposing coach if you no longer wish to send a match confirmation request, or if you want to add a different person from the opposing team.
    How to remove the opposing coach:

    1. Navigate to the relevant match event

    2. Tap on the name of the previously entered opposing coach

    3. Tap the “Remove Opposing Coach” button

    4. Confirm the removal

    5. If you wish to add a new opposing coach, you can tap “Add Opposing Coach” and complete the process

      ⚠️ NOTE! It is not possible to remove an opposing coach after the match confirmation request has been sent out.



Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I set a colour for the teams?


For the time being, it is only possible to set team colours via the app and not the web version, even if you have created the match using the web version.

You can open the event in the app and edit it there to set the colours.

Can I send the match confirmation request and/or add an opposing coach after the match has started?

Unfortunately, sending the match confirmation request or adding an opposing coach isn’t possible after the match has started.

How can I share results from the match?

If you open the event and select the "Is the game over?" option. You'll see a new button just below that allows you to share the results. When you then select "Share result", you'll be able to share this via various social media.

Why can't I see the names of all the players in the group?

You'll only be able to select those who attended the event when you create a vote for the best player of the match.

Why is the button to publish players spotlight inactive?

This is probably because more than one member hasn't been selected in the previous step. Go back to the previous step and choose "Select all"

I can't create a match event in my group, why?

This is likely because the group activity in the group is either not set or does not support match events. Match events are available for groups where the group activity is set to the following:

  • American football

  • Bandy

  • Basketball

  • Cricket (not yet possible to set results)

  • Football

  • Hockey

  • Handball

  • Floorball

  • Lacrosse

  • Netball

  • Rugby

  • Softball

  • Volleyball
