Payment and payout method
Updated over 2 weeks ago

In Spond, group admins can invite you to events that require a fee to attend, and they can also create payment requests for these events. To be able to make payments to events or payment requests, you need to add a payment method.

How to pay and add a payout method

You can only add a payout method if you've received a payment request or have been invited to an event with a registration fee. When you register the payout method to complete the transaction, you can choose whether you want to save the information for future use.

⚠️ NOTE!
We will never store your card details. Payments are handled by our payment processing partner Stripe, which has the highest PCI certification. Read more about payment methods here.

I'm having trouble making a payment, what's wrong?

There may be several reasons why your payment is not processing:

  • Your payment card has expired

  • Incorrect card number is entered

  • Problems with your card issuer

  • Failed 3D verification or Bank ID verification

  • It may also be that the group’s administrator has not verified the payment account, which prevents the payment from being received. You can contact the administrator of the group to inform them that you are unable to make the payment. The administrator can then check whether the payment account is verified or if it requires additional verification.

I get the error message 'The payment could not be processed, you've probably entered the wrong card number', but I know I have entered the correct card number. What do I do?

This error message usually means that the recipient's payment method hasn't been verified and therefore can't receive payments. If this is the case, the club that sent the payment must verify its payment account. You can contact the admin of the group to resolve the issue.

What can I do if I have technical problems paying?

In case of payment problems, we recommend trying the following:

  1. Check if it works to pay via the web version: Login here with the same username and password you use in the app

  2. Try different browsers

  3. Check if it works to pay if you switch off wifi and are on 4G/5G at the moment

  4. If the card is stored in Spond, remove it and insert manually.

  5. Try a different card

  6. It may also be that the group’s administrator has not verified the payment account, which prevents the payment from being received. You can contact the administrator of the group to inform them that you are unable to make the payment. The administrator can then check whether the payment account is verified or if it requires additional verification.

Why has Stripe asked me to add additional private owners?

Our payment provider, Stripe, is obliged to collect and confirm information regarding individuals owning 25% or more of the company in countries associated with SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area), in addition to the person that represents the company. Stripe will attempt to check every owner, which means they may request more information, if needed.

To comply with local laws and regulations we, and our payment processor Stripe, may require that you verify your identity.

NOTE: To avoid delays and inconvenience, please ensure that all additional private owner requests are responded to in a timely manner.

How do I find my IBAN number?

You can usually find your IBAN number on your banking statement, your online banking or by contacting your bank directly.

(For Norway) Sparebank 1 has a website that allows everyone (regardless of which bank you have) to view their IBAN-number (link). You will have to specify your account number in order to access the IBAN-number. You can contact your bank if the attempt to find your IBAN-number through the Sparebank 1 website is unsuccessful.

What do I need the IBAN number for?

The IBAN-number is an account number used for international payments, and is crucial if you are going to receive payments from overseas. The IBAN number identifies your bank account, and makes it possible to receive payments from an international bank. Spond use an international payment provider (Stripe) and is therefor dependant on the IBAN number.
